Topanga Nights outdoor picnic, entertainment, live music & movie screening under the stars this Sunday, August 12. Makes for a great date or night out with friends.
Movie is 1970’s classic cult comedy movie by director Hal Ashby, Harold & Maude (PG) starring Ruth Gordon and Bud Cort. Harold is a depressed, death-obsessed 20-year-old man-child who spends his free time attending funerals and committing suicide in front of his mother, but he does not die. At a funeral, Harold befriends Maude, a 79-year-old woman who has a zest for life. She and Harold spend much time together during which she exposes him to the wonders and possibilities of life. After rejecting his mother's three attempts to set him up with a potential wife, and committing fake suicide in front of all of them, Harold announces that he is to be married to Maude. However, Maude has a surprise for Harold that is to change his life forever.
Actress Ellen Geer, (Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum, Topanga), who appeared in the role of Sunshine Doré, one of the Harold’s girlfriends, will introduce the movie and briefly talk about her involvement in the making of this film.
Melanie Kareem’s Middle Easter Belly Dance Troupe opens the evening entertainment, followed by rockin’ live music by Topanga’s full ten piece band Jim Crawford and Friends, playing original rock ‘n roll ala Eric Clapton meets Leon Russell with a dash of Pink Floyd and Brother to the Night spins 70’s style classics starting at 6:00 p.m. when gates open.
